Providing consistent application of approved frameworks, robust controls, and statutory requirements across all operating environments, while enabling reliable reporting and informed people and business decision-making. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Payroll Management (RSA and Countries)
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for South Africa, African operating countries, and expatriate payrolls in line with approved frameworks, controls, and calendars, ensuring accurate data capture, variance analysis, quality checks, and on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate monthly payroll sign-off processes, ensuring all payroll inputs, reconciliations, approvals, and supporting documentation are complete, reviewed, and submitted for authorisation in accordance with governance and audit requirements.
Compliance, Legislation & Audit
  • Ensure all South African and in-country employee contracts, records, and personnel files are accurate, compliant, and maintained in line with local labour legislation and statutory payroll requirements.
  • Ensure all statutory payroll obligations (including taxes, social security, levies, and mandatory contributions) are accurately calculated, submitted, and paid on time across all operating countries.
Remuneration and Benefits Operations
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation, tax requirements, fund rules, and regulatory obligations across all operating countries by monitoring legislative developments and supporting the timely and consistent implementation of approved changes.
  • Manage the administration and governance of remuneration and benefits frameworks, ensuring alignment between approved policies, employment contracts, system configuration, and regulatory requirements, including accurate employee communication.
Cross-Functional Collaboration 
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across PEP Africa with Exco, Country Leadership, People Support, Finance, Legal, IT, and external partners to support collaboration and aligned payroll and People Support delivery.
  • Act as a trusted PS advisor to business and country leadership on payroll, remuneration, benefits, statutory conditions.
Payroll, Remuneration & People Reporting
  • Produce accurate, complete, and timeous payroll, remuneration, benefits, and people-related reports for South Africa and all African operating countries across monthly, annual, and ad hoc cycles for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare, maintain, and continuously improve standardised reporting packs covering payroll costs, variances, headcount movements, statutory deductions, leave balances, employment equity, skills development, and identified payroll and people-related risks.
HR Systems, Integrations & Digital Enablement
  • Support the day-to-day operation of payroll and HR systems across all operating countries, ensuring accurate configuration, master data maintenance, and alignment to approved people and payroll processes.
  • Manage and support all HR and payroll system integrations, ensuring accurate data flows, proactive monitoring, and timely resolution of interface issues in collaboration with IT and service providers.
HR Projects 
  • Deliver HR, payroll, remuneration, benefits, and people-related projects across all operating countries, ensuring clear scope, timelines, and on-time execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders (People Support, Finance, IT, Country teams, and service providers), providing effective change leadership to support adoption, communication, and smooth transition into business-as-usual operations
  JOB INCUMBENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management or a similar relevant field.
  • 3+years’ payroll experience managing end-to-end monthly payroll processing and payroll sign-off
  • Experience in administering remuneration and benefits (medical aid, retirement funds, group risk, bonuses, increases)
  • Experience maintaining payroll and HR system data integrity and supporting People Support, Finance, and line management
  • Solid understanding of South African payroll legislation and statutory requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL, COIDA)
  • Ability to apply payroll controls, validations, and reconciliations while maintaining payroll and HR system data integrity and audit-ready records 
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and benefit rules consistently
  • Sound numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail
